Yesterday, while I was checking Twitter amidst the hustle and bustle of a Tuesday-following-the-holidays work schedule, I came across video from Matt and Lauren Chandler that goes along with Matt’s new book The Mingling of Souls. I am ordering my copy today, and you should too.
The Chandlers have posted a whole series of videos accompanying The Mingling of Souls, which you can find here, but I found yesterday’s to be particularly helpful.
Yesterday’s video features Matt and Lauren answering the question, “Is it OK to date in high school?”
I’ve worked with a few high school youth groups over the last five years or so, and I was in high school myself only about six years ago, so this question is one I have dealt with in the recent past.
It’s a sticky question, isn’t it? Youth pastors know what I mean. It’s hard for a youth pastor to honestly shepherd his students away from the perils of high school dating when, often, the students’ parents couldn’t care one way or the other.
Especially in the culture of freedom and liberation promoted today, particularly in the realm of sexuality, it’s tough for a caring youth pastor to advise against dating in high school.
I was encouraged by Matt and Lauren’s handling of this issue, and I think their words would be helpful for youth pastors, parents, and students.
